John McClain grades each Texans position group's performance in Saturday's win over the Buccaneers.
Overall
The defense forced a season-high five turnovers, and the Texans ended a second consecutive four-game winning streak to clinch the division title. Grade: A
Quarterbacks
Deshaun Watson threw for only 184 yards. He had no touchdowns, one interception, five sacks and a 62.5 rating. Grade: C
Running backs
Playing against the NFL’s top-rated run defense, Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson combined for 19 carries and 31 yards. Grade: D
Receivers/tight ends
DeAndre Hopkins and Kenny Stills combined for 10 catches but only 80 yards. The receivers had trouble getting open too often. Grade: D
Offensive line
The running game got stuffed by the Bucs’ front seven. The pass protection was mediocre, but five sacks couldn’t be blamed on them. Grade: D
Defensive line
Subtract a 49-yard carry, and the Bucs rushed for 57 yards on their other 20 carries. Brandon Dunn had the first sack of his career. Grade: B
Linebackers
Whitney Mercilus had two sacks. Zach Cunningham had a team-high six tackles. The linebackers did well against the run. Grade: B
Defensive backs
They intercepted four passes. Bradley Roby returned the first one for a touchdown. Justin Reid had an interception and fumble recovery. Grade: A
Special teams
Bryan Anger was phenomenal again with a 48.2-yard gross and a 47.6 net. Angelo Blackson blocked a field goal. Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked three field goals. Grade: A-plus
Coaching
The offense struggled, but the defense and special teams were terrific. Bill O’Brien has a fourth division title in five years. Grade: B
