Target gift card sale is coming back. Here's what you need to know and how to save 10% - USA TODAY

Hands down, this Sunday is the best day of the year to buy Target store gift cards. 

For one-day only Dec. 8, you can save 10% on Target gift card purchases up to $300 in stores and online. Target announced the Sunday special, which is part of its weekend "HoliDeals," in a blog post.

With gift cards continuing to be the most popular holiday gift, this is a rare chance to stock up and save on Target gift cards for gifts or to keep for yourself. 

For the 13th year in a row, the National Retail Federation found gift cards were the most popular on holiday wish lists and requested by 59% of those surveyed.

The cards will be redeemable starting at 10 a.m. CT Dec. 9.

Shoppers with a Target RedCard credit or debit card can save 5% on store purchases including many other gift cards year round, however, store gift cards are excluded in the cardholder perk.

Target has another "HoliDeal" promotion this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, get a free $10 gift card when spending $30 on beauty products.

The fine print

Here are a few other caveats of the gift card sale:

• The minimum gift card purchase is $10, and the maximum is $300 with a $30 maximum discount per household.
• The limit is one transaction of up to $300 in Target gift cards on Target.com.
• The offer doesn’t include Target Visa gift cards, Target MasterCard gift cards, Target American Express gift cards, or gift cards that other retailers have for sale in the store.
• Offer excludes reloads of previously purchased Target gift cards and cards given in exchange for electronic or prepaid trade-ins, cards provided for merchandise returns and cards provided as free promotional card with qualifying purchase.
