The Houston Chronicle's John McClain grades each Texans position group's performance in Sunday night's 28-22 victory over the Patriots at NRG Stadium.
Overall
The Texans ended the Patriots’ eight-game winning streak against them with an excellent performance by the offense, defense and special teams. Grade: A-plus
Quarterbacks
Deshaun Watson threw three touchdown passes and caught a touchdown pass against a defense that had given up nine touchdowns. Grade: A-plus
Running backs
The league’s No. 6 rushing team was unable to generate yards on the ground, but Duke Johnson had his best game as a runner and receiver. Grade: B
Receivers/tight ends
Darren Fells and Kenny Stills caught touchdown passes. DeAndre Hopkins threw a touchdown pass to Watson. Grade: A
Offensive line
The Texans didn’t run it enough to let the linemen get going, and the pass protection was good enough for Watson. Grade: B
Defensive line
With Angelo Blackson and Carlos Watkins out, they were still able to play well enough against the run and get some heat on Tom Brady. Grade: B
Linebackers
They did a solid job against the run, helped provide some pressure and did a good job on coverage. Jacob Martin had 1 ½ sacks. Grade: A
Defensive backs
Bradley Roby returned in style with an interception and sack. Except for one bad series, the secondary played well. Grade: A
Special teams
Bryan Anger had an exceptional game punting. He pinned the Patriots deep in their territory. The coverage teams were excellent as usual. Grade: A
Coaching
Bill O’Brien and his assistants did an outstanding coaching job to give him his first victory over the Patriots. Grade: A-plus
