If you have a business, it’s important to make sure you have a credit card that’s serving you well. Business credit cards offer perks and points-earning opportunities that are, rightfully, geared toward businesses.

Some factors to consider when you’re looking for a business card are the categories of spend that earn the most points, the welcome bonus, how you can use your rewards, and additional perks of the card. If that seems like a lot to consider, never fear. We’ve broken down the details to help you figure out whether the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card is the business credit card match you’ve been waiting for.

Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card at a glance

Annual fee: $95.

Sign-up bonus: Earn 80,000 bonus points after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $1,000 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.

Points: 3 points per dollar on categories including travel, shipping, phone, internet and cable, search engine and social media advertising, and 1 point per dollar on all other purchases.

Here are a few signs that the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card might be right for you:

You’re a small-business owner

The Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card provides 3 Ultimate Rewards® points per $1 spent on up to $150,000 of combined spending per year in the following categories: travel, shipping, internet, cable, phone services and advertising on search engines/social media advertising. If you spend more than $150,000 per year, you’ll still earn 1 point per $1 spent in all of these categories.

It also offers 1 Ultimate Rewards® point per $1 on all other purchases. For a small-business owner (or the solo entrepreneur operating their own side hustle), the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card provides bonus points in categories likely to benefit your business.

You’re a frequent traveler

Frequent travelers will love the 25% bonus on points when redeemed through the Chase Ultimate Rewards® travel portal, making each point worth 1.25 cents. In addition, the card offers trip cancellation and interruption insurance for tours, hotels, and airfare, up to $5,000 per trip.

Furthermore, Chase Ultimate Rewards® points are transferable at a 1:1 ratio to a number of airline and hotel programs:

  • Airlines: Aer Lingus AerClub, British Airways Executive Club, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Iberia Plus, JetBlue TrueBlue, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, United MileagePlus, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.
  • Hotels: IHG Rewards Club, Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards, World of Hyatt.

This 1:1 transfer could be useful for members of the above loyalty programs if used wisely. Ultimate Rewards® points are worth 1 cent when redeemed for cash without the 25% bonus, or 1.25 cents when redeemed through the Chase Ultimate Rewards® center. If you’re thinking about transferring your points to another program, use NerdWallet’s loyalty program point valuations to optimize your transfer to a program where you’ll maximize your reward value — and always be sure to check award availability before you transfer, so you’re sure you can book the flights or hotels you think you can.
